Sockatyes was invented in 2001 by Russell Pointon, a former U.K. professional football player, to hold up his children's socks during football matches. After years of research and development, Sockatyes obtained its first patent in 2004, in addition to obtaining recognition by FIFA (the international governing body for football/soccer). Since the PortiRed system is placed next to the goal which is the key action area, it has very high visibility throughout a match, particularly during TV replays, game highlights and still pictures in online/offline match reports.
